Embattled Meru governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza on Wednesday, December 18, received an early Christmas gift, after the High Court extended conservatory orders against her removal from office, by impeachment.

The first-time county boss stood impeached in August, after the Senate voted in favour of her removal from office, days after the Meru County Assembly had expressed dissatisfaction with her leadership, for the third time since assuming office in 2022.
She swiftly moved to court, landing a conservatory order that ensured her stay in office until the case is heard and determined.
While extending the order for four months (120 days), High County judge Bahati Mwamuye said Mwangaza will continue serving as governor, with the matter set to be mentioned on December 20.
“The respondent’s notice of motion is dismissed, ex-party orders are confirmed and extended for a period of 120 days and at that time she will continue to serve as the Governor,” ruled Justice Mwamuye.
The former Meru County Women Representative took to social media, to thank God for the favourable ruling.
“Powerful God. Amen. Prayers,” she wrote.
Mwangaza is battling to stay in office and see through her term which ends in 2017, in the face of frosty relationship with Members of the Meru County Assembly.
She was first impeached by MCAs in December 2022, before impeaching her again November 2023. On both occasions, she survived at the altar of the Senate, after Senators voted against the motion from the County Assembly.
However, lady luck did not smile for her for the third time in August, 2024, as Senators overwhelmingly voted to uphold the impeachment motion by the Meru County Assembly.
