There’s a new sheriff in town.
Deputy President Abraham Kithure Kindiki has officially assumed the role of deputy party leader for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), taking over from former Deputy President Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua, who was recently removed from office by impeachment.

The UDA, led by President William Ruto, is the primary stakeholder in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, a coalition that includes parties such as Ford Kenya and Maendeleo Chapa Chap (MCCP). Kindiki, just two weeks into his role as Deputy President, was appointed UDA’s deputy leader during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday.
“The National Executive Committee notes that by virtue of the resolution of the National Assembly and the vote of the Senate, and by operation of Articles 75 (3) and 145 (7) of the Constitution of Kenya, as read together with Article 8.2.19 of the UDA Party Constitution, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua is unable to perform the duties of the office of Deputy Party Leader and subsequently ceases to hold office as Deputy Party Leader,” stated UDA national chairperson and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire.
She added, “The National Executive Committee now resolves to designate H.E. Prof. Kithure Kindiki, EGH, as the Deputy Party Leader of the United Democratic Alliance Party effective immediately.”

Kindiki expressed gratitude for the appointment, pledging to support President Ruto in advancing the party’s vision for Kenya.
“I am honored to take on this responsibility to help the President fulfill the party’s agenda for all members and Kenyans,” said the former Tharaka Nithi Senator. “I thank the party and Almighty God for the privilege to serve as deputy party leader. The past few weeks have been transformative as we navigated the constitutional and judicial processes leading to this change.”
This transition comes a day after Gachagua called on Kenyans to register in large numbers as voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
