Renowned singer Suzanna Owiyo has seemingly put an end to the heated debate ignited by Homa Bay Town MP Peter Opondo Kaluma regarding male circumcision.

Kaluma’s controversial remarks dismissing circumcision as “male genital mutilation” sparked widespread debate on social media, drawing reactions from leaders and the public. He questioned the necessity of the practice, arguing that animals do not circumcise and that some human communities were misled into believing it was necessary.

“Donkeys don’t circumcise. All animals don’t circumcise except a few human beings who have been lied to that they are grandchildren of Abraham, a man who lived in the desert without water,” Kaluma stated.

He further linked circumcision to social issues, claiming that communities practicing it also experience high cases of female genital mutilation (FGM), teenage pregnancies, and early marriages.

“Why should men from communities that practice female genital mutilation chop their daughters’ genitals, then flock to ladies from communities that don’t practice it, if FGM is good?” he posed.

Suzanna Owiyo’s Blunt Take

Amid the fiery debate, Owiyo has summed up the discussion with a straightforward response, arguing that women are the best judges when it comes to the circumcision debate. According to the award-winning musician, there is no difference between circumcised and uncircumcised men in intimate matters.

“Hey guys, there is this tired narrative about circumcision. What people fail to understand is that women are in a better position to explain all this,” Owiyo stated in a viral online video.

She boldly concluded:

“Shimo ni shimo. Shimo haitambui kitu imekatwa na kitu haijakatwa. Ask any woman, because I know majority wameonja kitu imekatwa na kitu haijakatwa.”

Her remarks have sparked fresh reactions online, with many praising her candidness while others continue to engage in the ongoing debate.
