In a boost for Tamu-Chemelil Ward residents, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Kisumu branch chairman George Mbuta, alongside his team, introduced a series of much-needed community development projects addressing key local issues. Mbuta, speaking during his recent visit, noted that this was the final ward in a sequence of development initiatives across Kisumu’s 35 wards.

Last time we were here, we observed significant challenges—such as access to clean water, lack of shelter for bodaboda operators, poor lighting at the market, and deteriorating roads. In response, we’re implementing solutions, including bodaboda shades, solar lighting, and a borehole for clean drinking water,” Mbuta said, confirming that his contractor’s site assessment confirmed potential for a sustainable water source.

Reflecting on the region’s history, Mbuta highlighted the community’s origin, tracing it back to Kabonyo Kanyagwal before their relocation due to flooding in the 1960s. He expressed concern over the lack of infrastructural improvements since that time, saying, “These people were relocated by Tom Mboya in the 1960s, but since then, leaders have neglected this area. There’s been no progress in roads, water, or market development—things essential to economic growth.”

Addressing recent political discourse, Mbuta also commented on the proposed presidential term limit amendment, criticizing the push as an internal attempt to destabilize government leadership. “The person pushing this term-limit agenda is serving the interests of the former deputy president. We know where this idea originates, but as the ruling party, we firmly reject it.”

In her address, nominated MCA Regina Kizito emphasized ongoing efforts with the county government to support local youth and women through access to trade funds. She noted that policies geared toward women’s empowerment were also in the works, emphasizing her focus on initiatives benefiting community growth. “In the assembly, we’re working with the county government to secure trade funds for women. Teaming up with Mbuta and county officials, we’re committed to driving policies that help women thrive.”

The residents of Tamu-Chemelil Ward expressed gratitude for the projects, noting that local leaders had largely overlooked their needs until now. They voiced appreciation for Mbuta’s intervention, welcoming the improvements to their area.
