At least 8,820 young people from Kisumu, Siaya, and Homa Bay counties received KSh 220 million in start-up capital through the government’s NYOTA Fund program on Monday, February 2.

The beneficiaries, drawn from 105 wards, had completed a four-day business skills training program. Each is slated to receive KSh 50,000, with KSh 25,000 already disbursed. Of this amount, KSh 22,000 was transferred via Pochi La Biashara, while KSh 3,000 was saved under Haba na Haba with NSSF.
Speaking during the disbursement ceremony at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu, President William Ruto lauded the country’s youth as a generation “in motion,” rejecting tribal politics and seeking meaningful opportunities.
“They refuse to be reduced to numbers on a ballot sheet, activated during campaigns and abandoned thereafter,” he said. “They are impatient for opportunity, ready for responsibility, and determined to build. That is why we have rolled out a deliberate, nationwide, and structured agenda to unlock opportunities for young people.”

President Ruto urged Kenyan youth to take advantage of programs such as NYOTA, digital job initiatives, affordable housing projects, and bilateral labor agreements that are opening doors beyond Kenya’s borders.
The event was attended by Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, ODM party leader Oburu Oginga, and other dignitaries.
