Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga is facing intensifying political heat after yet another wave of protests erupted, this time in Nyando Sub-County, accusing her of undermining Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo.

A day after Kisumu women staged demonstrations in the heart of the city’s CBD, a section of women in Ahero town on Wednesday took to the streets waving placards and demanding that Governor Wanga “respect Dr. Omollo” and stop interfering with his work.

Everline Anyango, a resident of Ahero, said the PS had been instrumental in supporting widows and needy students, urging Wanga to seek an amicable solution if differences exist.

“We love our party, ODM, and we thank Governor Wanga as women. But we want to tell her that Raymond Omollo has really come through for us during difficult moments and rescued us as widows. If there is any difference, find a way of solving it,” Anyango said.

Addressing the protesters, Bunge la Wananchi Nyando Sub-County president Richy Omoro asked Wanga to consult ODM leader Dr. Oburu Oginga before making pronouncements on sensitive political matters. He cautioned her against pushing for Omollo’s removal and instead urged her to fight for more Luo representation in government.

“We love you and urge you to keep working for Homa Bay people, but stop interfering with PS Omollo. If there’s anything, consult our party leader, Dr. Oburu Oginga, and don’t make any decisions alone. Planning to fire Omollo is not right and will take us back,” Omoro said, adding that the group supports President Ruto’s government beyond 2027.

The protests, initially confined to Kisumu, have now spread to other Luo Nyanza counties, including Siaya and Migori, with religious leaders calling for reconciliation between the two leaders.
Governor Wanga has so far remained silent on claims that she is pushing President William Ruto to sack Dr. Omollo.
