The Kisumu County Boda Boda Association has commended President William Ruto and Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo for fulfilling key promises to the boda boda sector, terming it a practical demonstration of the administration’s bottom-up economic model.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu East Sub-county on Friday during the official handover of new motorcycles, Association Chairman Jacob Ogambo hailed PS Omollo for delivering on a pledge to empower local riders with motorbikes to boost their businesses.

“We thank PS Raymond Omollo. Through the connection of Boy Akoth, we’ve received a motorbike for our office, which we truly appreciate,” Ogambo said. “As the Kisumu Boda Boda Association, we are ready to work with the government, now and beyond 2027.”

General Secretary Dan Omondi echoed the sentiments, describing PS Omollo as a results-driven leader. Omondi also revealed that despite initial concerns over a previous meeting held in Vihiga County; where Kisumu youth felt sidelined, Omollo later engaged the association directly and assured them of inclusion in development programs.

“Today, we are happy because the right channel has been followed. We don’t have any problem with President Ruto, and we are ready to support him for a second term in 2027,” Omondi said.

George Ajigo, the association’s Deputy Chief of Security, recalled that President Ruto had promised during his campaign to uplift the boda boda sector through the bottom-up economic strategy. He said Friday’s handover was clear evidence that the promise was being honored.

“President Ruto pledged to support the boda boda sector using the bottom-up approach. Today, we have seen that commitment fulfilled, and we’re grateful,” Ajigo said.

The association also credited Boy Akoth for his role in bridging communication between the government and local riders. Akoth confirmed that of the ten motorcycles provided, one had been handed over to the association office, while the remaining nine would be distributed to individual riders across the county.

“We’ve given one motorbike to the association office, and the remaining nine will go to boda boda riders across Kisumu. The government is giving back to the people, and we urge the sector to support the current regime,” Akoth stated.

Earlier, during a youth engagement in Vihiga County, PS Omollo promised to empower Kisumu youth with 10 motorcycles, five tuk-tuks, and enrollment into the Kazi Mtaani program, aimed at boosting economic opportunities and livelihoods at the grassroots level.
