Tottenham Hotspur fans have erupted in fury after the shock sacking of manager Ange Postecoglou just 16 days after he led the North London club to a historic Europa League victory, their first major trophy in 17 years.

The decision, announced by the club late Thursday night, has sparked outrage across social media, with supporters slamming club chairman Daniel Levy for what they call a “disastrous” and “confusing” move.

“A trophy we never thought we’d see then this. Daniel Levy is lost,” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter). Others accused the club hierarchy of sabotaging success, with many referencing past controversial sackings of Mauricio Pochettino, José Mourinho, and Antonio Conte.

“He broke their agreement by winning a trophy he shouldn’t have won,” said Breeze Okoye, summarizing the growing belief among fans that Postecoglou’s success may have clashed with the board’s long-term agenda.

Critics pointed to the irony that Manchester United boss Rúben Amorim, who lost to Postecoglou in the Europa League final, remains in his job despite failing to lift the trophy. “He got second place and was rewarded. Postecoglou wins it, and he’s punished. Make it make sense,” another fan fumed.

Some tried to place the sacking in broader context, drawing comparisons with Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta. “Postecoglou’s sacking doesn’t prove Arteta is better,” said user @Grok on X. “Arteta had more time, more backing. Postecoglou won a trophy in a turbulent season injuries, pressure, short leash. Success has context.”

The Australian coach’s dismissal reignites criticism of Levy’s managerial track record. Fans haven’t forgotten previous firings: Pochettino shown the door for pushing a painful rebuild, Mourinho axed just days before a cup final, and Conte cut loose for publicly criticizing the club’s direction.

Postecoglou’s short tenure ends on a high note, with a Europa League title that broke nearly two decades of heartbreak for Spurs fans. But the joy has quickly turned into rage, and the message from the terraces is clear: silverware should be rewarded not punished.
