The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has moved to reassure the continent that Kenya remains on track to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania, dismissing concerns over stadium readiness and infrastructure delays.

FKF officials said this week that upgrades to key venues, including Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium, are progressing well. The federation also pointed to plans for new training facilities and accommodation upgrades as part of a broader hosting blueprint.

Why the Reassurance Was Needed

Questions had been raised after reports emerged that construction timelines were slipping and that Kenya risked falling behind its East African partners. Tanzania has already made significant progress on the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium upgrades, while Uganda is pushing forward with the Hoima Airfield and stadium projects.

FKF president said the federation is working closely with the government to ensure all Confederation of African Football (CAF) requirements are met on time. The three-nation PAMOJA bid won hosting rights in 2023, marking the first time the tournament will be held in East Africa.

What Is at Stake

Hosting AFCON 2027 is a massive opportunity for Kenya. The tournament is expected to bring in hundreds of thousands of visitors, boost tourism revenues and showcase East Africa as a premier sports destination. Local businesses, hotels and transport operators are already positioning themselves to capitalise on the influx.

But the pressure is real. CAF inspectors will conduct further assessments in the coming months, and any signs of lagging could prompt tough conversations about whether Kenya should retain its hosting slot.

For now, FKF is projecting confidence. The message to fans and critics alike: Kenya will be ready when the whistle blows.
