The High Court in Meru has issued conservatory orders halting the removal and burial of the late Sister Anselmina Karimi pending the hearing and determination of a case filed by Thomas Murithi Mwiraria.

Hon. Justice Stephen Githinji granted the temporary orders against the Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen, and four others, and directed that the matter be mentioned on November 13 for further directions.

In his ruling, Justice Githinji emphasized the importance of preserving the body and maintaining the status quo until the court establishes the facts surrounding the dispute.

Speaking after the court’s decision, Mr. Murithi welcomed the ruling, describing it as a significant step toward justice and closure for the family.

“As a family, we are not at peace. We want to understand the motive and identify the perpetrators behind the killing of our sister before any burial arrangements can proceed,” Murithi said outside the courtroom.

The case arises from the mysterious killing of Sister Karimi, which has generated public concern and deepened family tensions. A suspect who was earlier arrested in connection with the killing has since been turned into a state witness, a move the family strongly objects to, arguing that it undermines their pursuit of justice.

According to investigators, Sister Karimi, aged 65, was the administrator of Meru Children’s Home at Nkabune.

She was found dead in her house on October 13, with police suspecting that she may have been killed elsewhere and her body dumped at the scene.

The court’s orders mean that burial arrangements, which were already underway, will remain suspended until the case is heard and determined.
