Police in Nyando are investigating the fatal stabbing of a middle-aged man during a relief food distribution event presided over by Nyando Member of Parliament Jared Okello.

The deceased was reportedly stabbed in the chest as residents gathered to receive portions of relief food being distributed by the legislator and his team. Several other people were also injured during the incident, although the circumstances leading to the violence remain unclear.
Nyando Sub-County Police Commander Shadrack Mose confirmed that detectives have launched investigations to establish what triggered the altercation that culminated in the fatal stabbing.
“We are investigating the circumstances that led to the stabbing and the injuries sustained by several other people during the event,” Mose said.
The incident has drawn sharp condemnation from Kisumu County Assembly Majority Leader and Ahero Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Ken Ooko, who questioned how a humanitarian exercise ended in tragedy.
Ooko expressed condolences to the bereaved family and called for a swift and thorough investigation to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“It is unfortunate that a relief food distribution exercise meant to assist vulnerable residents has resulted in the loss of a life and injuries to others. My condolences go to the family of the deceased, and I urge the relevant authorities to expedite investigations into the matter,” Ooko said.
By the time of publication, MP Jared Okello had not issued a public statement regarding the incident.
