PS says new police recruits, road projects and welfare programmes demonstrate government’s commitment to equitable development

Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has defended President William Ruto’s development record in the Nyanza region, saying the government is implementing projects in the area out of its commitment to equitable development and not political pressure.
Omollo said the President recognises that good leadership requires every region to benefit from government development programmes, irrespective of its political affiliations.
“President William Ruto has done a lot for the people of Nyanza. He is rolling out projects in this region not because he has been coerced to do so, but because he understands that good leadership demands equitable development,” Omollo said.
The PS was speaking on Friday, October 30, 2026, during the official opening of Manyatta B Police Station in Kisumu East Sub-County.
He said Kisumu East had experienced security challenges, prompting the government to strengthen police operations through increased funding, modern equipment, recruitment of additional officers and enhanced training as part of ongoing police reforms.

Omollo revealed that more than 10,000 police recruits had completed their training and graduated within the past year before being deployed to various parts of the country.
He further disclosed that two newly trained officers had been posted to Manyatta B Police Station to reinforce security operations and improve service delivery in the area.
The PS also appealed to Members of Parliament to support the government’s proposed additional budgetary allocation to the National Police Service, saying the funding would facilitate the recruitment of at least 5,000 more officers.
According to Omollo, the additional personnel would help bridge existing security gaps and strengthen the government’s capacity to fulfil its constitutional obligation of protecting Kenyans.

On community welfare, the PS announced that the government was working towards enrolling all village elders under the Social Health Authority (SHA), describing the initiative as recognition of their contribution to community leadership and dispute resolution.
This comes after the government introduced a monthly stipend of KSh3,000 for village elders in recognition of their role in maintaining peace and resolving disputes at the grassroots level.
“For the first time, village elders are receiving a monthly stipend of KSh3,000 to appreciate their efforts in resolving matters that are critical to our communities. We are currently looking into ensuring that they are all covered under the Social Health Authority,” he said.
Omollo also highlighted ongoing government initiatives targeting youth employment and infrastructure development, citing several road projects being implemented across Kisumu County.
Among the projects he mentioned were the Chiga-Rabuor Road and the Mamboleo-Chemelil-Miwani Road, which he said formed part of the government’s broader development agenda for the region.
The PS urged Nyanza residents to support President Ruto’s re-election bid, arguing that continued engagement with the region would facilitate the implementation of additional development programmes.

The opening of Manyatta B Police Station is expected to strengthen police presence in Kisumu East Sub-County and improve security service delivery to residents.
