Gor Mahia Football Club will hold its much-anticipated elections on April 13, 2025, at the Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium, coinciding with the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Chairman Ambrose Rachier has officially announced his bid for re-election, citing the club’s 2019 constitution and a Sports Tribunal ruling on January 15, which he claims grants him eligibility for a second term.
“I am firmly in the race. The constitution is clear, and Regulation 20 supports my candidacy. Our first elections under the 2019 constitution were held in 2020, marking the beginning of a four-year term. As such, we are eligible to serve a second term,” Rachier declared on Monday.
Eligibility and Requirements
The election process will begin at 7:00 AM, with members expected to elect the club’s leadership. Aspirants must meet several eligibility criteria, including:
- Being at least 18 years old with a valid national ID or passport.
- Submitting a duly filled nomination form.
- Being a registered club member.
- Obtaining clearances from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
Rachier Faces Opposition but Remains Defiant
Despite facing opposition from some club factions, Rachier remains resolute, challenging his critics to seek legal action if they contest his eligibility.
“We are here to build Gor Mahia and take it to greater heights. Our priority is winning trophies and maintaining our legacy. If anyone feels otherwise, they are free to seek redress in court,” he asserted.
The elections come amid internal disputes and delays, prompting Sports Registrar Rose Wasike to mandate the club to conduct elections within 90 days.

To ensure transparency, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been appointed to oversee the polls. The decision follows the IEBC’s successful management of Nairobi Club elections in recent months.
Spotlight on Gor Mahia’s Future
As Kenya’s most decorated football club with 21 Kenyan Premier League titles and a historic African Cup Winners’ Cup victory in 1987, Gor Mahia’s leadership transition remains a focal point. With candidates expected to formally declare their bids in the coming weeks, the race for the club’s top seat is set to intensify.
