Media professionals, political leaders, and thousands of fans on Friday thronged Awasi PAG Boys High School in Awasi to pay their last respects to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) Mayienga FM head Festus John Ong’udi Amimo, who has been remembered as a transformative radio professional and community voice.

Amimo was eulogised at a ceremony attended by mourners from across the region, marking the loss of a broadcaster widely credited with using the airwaves to promote inclusivity and stimulate meaningful dialogue on socio-economic development.
Homa Bay Governor and ODM party chairperson Gladys Wanga described the late journalist as a warm, charismatic, and selfless individual whose impact extended far beyond the studio.
“His warmth, charisma, and unwavering commitment to uplifting others will be profoundly missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing and interacting with him,” Wanga said.

Energy Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi said Amimo played a pivotal role in shaping his early political journey, recalling how the broadcaster used his platform to amplify emerging voices at a time when opportunities were limited.
“He helped make me known when nobody knew me. His voice may be silent now, but the impact of his work and relationships will echo for years to come,” Wandayi said.
In an emotional tribute, Amimo’s widow, Roselyn Achieng Ong’udi, described her late husband as a devoted family man who treated her with love, dignity, and respect throughout their 24-year marriage.
“He always told me he would never let me suffer. I was fragile to him, and he respected me deeply. I truly loved him,” Achieng said, struggling to hold back tears.

She added that the family had lived a humble life away from the public eye and admitted that adjusting to life without him would be extremely difficult.
Amimo’s sudden and unexplained death has sent shockwaves through the media fraternity and among listeners across the region, with many still grappling for answers.
The veteran broadcaster is survived by his widow and four children: Kennedy Ibrahims, Agnes Monica, and Noella Nadia.
Amimo, who died aged 45, was laid to rest on Friday, December 19, 2025, at his home in Awasi village, Nyando Sub-county.
