Veteran media personality Eric Latiff has found a new home at Nation Media Group (NMG), days after departing Standard Media Group’s Spice FM. Latiff’s transition was confirmed by Simaloi Dajom, NMG’s Head of Broadcast, who lauded him as a trailblazer in the media industry.

“Eric Latiff is a highly regarded and accomplished media personality, renowned for his creativity, passion, and stellar track record across TV, radio, and digital platforms. With over 27 years of experience in the media industry, Latiff brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for developing new media,” Dajom said in a statement.

She emphasized that Latiff’s addition aligns seamlessly with NMG’s commitment to innovation and delivering content that resonates with audiences.
“Having Latiff onboard aligns perfectly with our strategy to continuously innovate and elevate our broadcast offerings. His inclusion will undoubtedly make a significant impact in the fast-changing media landscape,” Dajom added.

A Storied Career

Latiff, who had been a key figure at Spice FM, reflected on his journey before exiting. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he shared an emotional post about launching the popular morning show The Situation Room in August 2019.

“At exactly 6am on 20th August 2019, four people entered a brand new studio and started a journey along an uncharted path… It has been a great journey building The Situation Room to what it has become,” Latiff wrote.

He expressed gratitude for his colleagues CT Muga, Ndu Okoh, and Njeri Thorne and the audiences who supported the show, which became a platform for thought leaders and community influencers.

Latiff’s departure from Standard Media is viewed as a significant blow, especially given his role in making The Situation Room a household name. Sources suggest financial challenges at Standard Media have contributed to a string of high-profile exits, with Latiff being the latest.

Chris Da Bass Also Exits Standard Media

In a related development, Radio Maisha morning show host Chris Da Bass also announced his departure, joining Cape Media. Chris, who previously worked at Milele FM, teamed up with Sugaboy and Solomon Jefwa Zully at Radio Maisha to form the formidable Tatu Sure team.

Financial Struggles at Standard Media

Industry insiders cite ongoing financial constraints at Standard Media as a key factor in the exodus of talent. Despite these challenges, the company’s legacy programs and dedicated teams continue to hold their ground.

As Eric Latiff embarks on his new chapter at Nation Media Group, the move signals an exciting shift in Kenya’s dynamic media landscape. His wealth of experience is expected to drive innovation and growth at NMG, setting the stage for fresh opportunities in 2025 and beyond.
