Bandari Queens FC delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, crushing Uweza Women FC 5-1 in a Women’s National Super League (NSL) clash at Serani Sports Ground, Mombasa.

Despite a spirited start by Uweza, who took an early lead through Yvonne Kidaha in the 17th minute following a defensive lapse, Bandari Queens quickly turned the tide. The home side equalized in the 27th minute when Happy Mutta, their in-form striker, capitalized on a defensive error by Uweza’s Mildred Kanyisi to slot home a low shot.
Bandari surged ahead five minutes later as Eve Chemutai found the back of the net, calmly converting a rebound after Agnes Olesi’s powerful effort ricocheted off the post. Kadzo Charo almost extended the lead before halftime, but her thunderous strike also rattled the woodwork, keeping the score at 2-1.
The second half belonged entirely to Bandari Queens. Happy Mutta bagged her brace in the 63rd minute, finishing a perfectly weighted pass from Tacy Olembo with finesse. Saumu Mnyazi then stole the show, scoring twice in the closing stages—first in the 76th minute and again two minutes before full time—to seal an emphatic victory for the hosts.
Bandari coach Janet Amunga praised her team’s stellar performance and emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum.
“We played with heart and determination today. Scoring five goals reflects our attacking intent. Now, we shift our focus to the final game of the first leg,” she said.
For Uweza Women, the result was a harsh lesson. Head coach Charles Kahindi pointed to defensive lapses and poor communication as the culprits behind the heavy defeat.
“We started strong, but my players lost focus and didn’t communicate effectively. That cost us dearly,” he remarked.
The Women’s NSL now takes a three-week break for the festive season, with matches set to resume in January. Teams will be eager to regroup and gear up for what promises to be an intense second leg of the league.
