Former Harambee Stars goalkeeper Matthew Owino Ottamax has made an emotional appeal to Kenyans, seeking help in finding a job as he battles financial struggles. In a heartfelt social media post, the former shot-stopper admitted to enduring a tough time for the past 18 months, revealing that he often breaks down in private while maintaining a strong front in public.
“Sometimes I feel like opening up, but I resort to crying it out when I’m alone! Things have not been looking up for the last 18 months or even longer! Most of us here are suffering in silence while striving to look Super in front of other brands and cameras, just hoping!” Ottamax wrote.

His plea has drawn support from former teammates, including ex-FC Leopards striker Boniface Ambani, who vowed to stand with him.
“When a man reaches this point, I know what it means. Tough times ahead, but believe me, Otta, we shall stand with you,” Ambani said, adding that many may not fully appreciate Ottamax’s legacy between the goalposts.
The former national team goalkeeper coach expressed his desperation, saying he is willing to take any job, including working as an office tea boy or errand runner, to make ends meet.
“I’m ready to be your office tea boy or errand boy… I’m looking for a job! Nimechoka kupigia watu simu za 999, I wasn’t born lazy!” he pleaded.
His struggles come despite past public appearances showcasing an affluent lifestyle. Three years ago, Ottamax was featured on a prominent TV program, The Property Show, where he was seen flaunting a Ksh260 million mansion in Runda.
His appeal has ignited mixed reactions online, with some sympathizing with his plight and others questioning his financial decisions.
