The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has welcomed the High Court’s decision convicting the three accused persons in the murder of Sharon Otieno, describing the ruling as a major milestone in a case that has taken nearly eight years to reach judgment.
In a statement issued on Thursday, FIDA-Kenya said the verdict marked a significant moment for Sharon’s family, who remained steadfast in their pursuit of justice following the brutal killing of Sharon and her unborn child.
The women’s rights organisation noted that the prolonged court process had tested the resilience and patience of the family but praised them for remaining committed to seeking accountability through the judicial system.
FIDA-Kenya commended the High Court for its diligence in handling the complex case and acknowledged the prosecution’s efforts in presenting evidence throughout the lengthy trial.
The organisation, which acted as counsel watching brief for Sharon’s family, also paid tribute to the witnesses who testified, saying their courage played a critical role in the pursuit of justice.
“While no judgment can restore the life of Sharon and her unborn baby, today’s decision represents an important step toward accountability and reinforces public confidence that justice can be achieved through the rule of law,” the statement said.
FIDA-Kenya reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sharon’s family during the remaining stages of the legal process, including sentencing and any subsequent court proceedings.
The organisation said it would issue a more detailed statement after reviewing the High Court’s judgment in full.
The High Court’s verdict brings a significant chapter in one of Kenya’s most closely watched murder trials closer to conclusion, with sentencing expected in the next phase of the proceedings.
