Kisumu police scored a major victory in the fight against crime today as Michael Onyango Ochieng, known as “Jonyo,” was arrested by Kondele police officers following an intense manhunt. Ochieng, the notorious ringleader of the “Tindo” gang, has long terrorized Kisumu residents, with multiple reported cases of assault, robbery, and violent attacks.

The arrest followed a swift crackdown after a recent attack on resident John Oduor, who was ambushed and injured by Ochieng and three accomplices. The gang reportedly struck Oduor with a crowbar, leaving him severely injured before robbing him of his phone. A breakthrough came when members of the public pursued the suspects, finding a jacket and crowbar abandoned by Ochieng during his escape.
Alerted by vigilant citizens, police located Ochieng near the Mosque area in Kisumu, where officers led by Kondele Station Police Commander Stapol swiftly apprehended him. He was escorted to Kondele Police Station under heightened security. The arrest marks a turning point in dismantling the Tindo gang’s grip on the community.
Ochieng, who has a history of arrests, had previously been charged in a high-profile case involving the robbery of a Chinese national. The case was dropped due to language barriers when the victim couldn’t testify. Ochieng is now in custody as police intensify efforts to locate his accomplices and bring them to justice.
Kondele Police Station Officer-in-Charge Daniel Ogechi commended the public’s courage in providing crucial information that led to Ochieng’s arrest. He pledged further action to root out crime, promising the community peace and security as officers work tirelessly to hold these criminals accountable.
