Muhoroni Sub-County witnessed a historic event as Mzee Walter Adera Aluoch, popularly known as “Dani,” was officially crowned the Luo Council of Elders Chairman at a colorful ceremony held on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Tonde Primary School grounds.

Hundreds of residents gathered to celebrate the coronation of Mzee Adera, who expressed profound gratitude to the Luo Council of Elders for entrusting him with the leadership role. Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of David, he likened his journey to that of the young shepherd who rose to prominence against all odds.
“I am deeply honored to be chosen as the Luo Council of Elders Chair for Muhoroni Sub-County. At 70 years old, I am ready to serve and lead with wisdom. Like David, who was called despite being doubted, I am prepared for this responsibility,” Adera declared during his acceptance speech.
A Call for Unity
Luo Council of Elders Chairman, Odungi Randa, lauded Adera’s appointment, highlighting his long-standing contributions to the community and urging him to focus on uniting not only the people of Muhoroni but the entire Luo community in Kenya.
“Unity among Luos is essential. When we speak with one voice, we can achieve remarkable success as a community,” Randa emphasized.

Randa also called on parents to prioritize education for their children, stating that leadership in the modern era relies on intellect and education. He cautioned against vices such as alcohol and drug abuse, urging the community to raise a generation capable of carrying forward the legacy of leaders like Raila Odinga and James Orengo.
Leadership and Legacy

Kisumu County Executive Committee Member for Roads, Salmon Orimba, spoke highly of Adera’s leadership record, citing his two terms as a councilor for Muhoroni-Koru Ward as evidence of his ability to deliver results. Orimba underscored the importance of the Luo Council of Elders in fostering unity and addressing the needs of the people.
“The role of the Luo Council of Elders Chairman is to unite the community and guide its members. Mzee Adera has proven his capability, and I trust he will fulfill this mandate,” Orimba stated.
Community Challenges Raised
As the celebrations unfolded, residents also voiced pressing concerns. Muhoroni resident Omullo Okowa highlighted the dire state of infrastructure in the area, particularly the Muhoroni-Achego and Kipstet-Muhoroni roads, which he described as economic lifelines.

“The roads here are impassable, and it’s affecting our economy. We’ve witnessed tragic accidents, like the recent Kipstet-Muhoroni road incident that claimed 13 lives. Our leaders must prioritize fixing these roads instead of merely offering condolences,” Okowa said, urging the Luo Council of Elders to amplify the community’s grievances to political leaders.
The coronation of Mzee Adera marked a new chapter for Muhoroni’s Luo community, with hopes pinned on his leadership to bring unity, address local challenges, and advocate for the region’s development.
