Police in Muhoroni Sub-county have recovered a large consignment of government relief food allegedly diverted from its intended beneficiaries and hidden in a private home in Kisumu County, leading to the arrest of two suspects.

According to a police report, officers from Masogo Police Station, acting on intelligence, raided the home of the late Johana Nyasuna at Ngere Kagoro Sub-location in North East Kano Sub-county on Saturday morning. During the operation, they discovered hundreds of bags of relief food stored inside the house.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the food supplies had been allocated to the Deputy County Commissioner’s (DCC) office in Muhoroni Sub-county for distribution to vulnerable residents in Chemelil.
Police recovered 300 bags of rice weighing 50 kilograms each, 250 bags of beans weighing 50 kilograms each, and 20 bags of 25-kilogram Uji Mix.

Officers also impounded a Mercedes-Benz transit goods trailer, registration number KCG 240F, which is believed to have transported the consignment to the homestead before it was offloaded. The vehicle belongs to Pontypridd Holdings and was being driven by Charles Gichoki at the time of the operation.
The driver and the storekeeper found at the premises were arrested and are assisting detectives with investigations into the suspected diversion of the relief food.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Muhoroni has taken over the case, with police saying investigations are ongoing to establish those behind the alleged theft and diversion of the government food supplies.
Authorities said a comprehensive progress report will be released as investigations continue.
