Kenya Airways (KQ) has issued a warning to its customers about an individual impersonating a pilot and falsely claiming to be an employee of the airline.

In a press statement released on Thursday, the national carrier identified the suspect as James Mwangi, who has been distributing counterfeit business cards featuring the Kenya Airways logo and a fleet number, alongside his name and contact details.

“Please be aware of a fake captain by the name James Mwangi issuing business cards and falsely claiming to be a Kenya Airways employee. This individual is not associated with us,” the airline stated.

The airline urged customers to verify any information regarding Kenya Airways and its employees through official channels, emphasizing vigilance.

“For accurate information about Kenya Airways and our employees, always rely on our official channels and website. Stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to our team via Call or WhatsApp on +254741111485,” the statement added.

Expanding Fleet and Route Updates

In other news, Kenya Airways announced significant developments in its operations. Effective January 16, 2025, the airline will deploy its flagship Dreamliner, the Boeing 787-800, for all flights to London Heathrow. The Dreamliner offers enhanced comfort, convenience, and world-class hospitality, reinforcing Kenya Airways’ reputation as Africa’s leading carrier.

Additionally, the airline is gearing up to launch direct flights between Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and London’s Gatwick Airport starting July 2, 2025. The new route, operating thrice weekly on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, will increase the airline’s total weekly flights to London to 10.

Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka highlighted the strategic importance of this expansion.

“The United Kingdom is essential and strategic for Kenya Airways and Kenya. It provides a gateway for trade, tourism, education, business, leisure travel, and diaspora connections,” he said.

Flight bookings for the new route are now open on the Kenya Airways website, through travel agents, and online travel platforms, offering passengers more options for seamless travel between the UK and Kenya.
