Two imposters, Sharon Nanjala Anyango, 26, and Tobias Ngala Wekesa, 23, were arrested in Bungoma for masquerading as senior officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). The duo allegedly conned public officials by promising to terminate corruption cases in exchange for bribes.

The suspects were apprehended on Monday, January 27, 2025, while extorting Ksh. 150,000 from a senior government official at an NG-CDF office. Posing as EACC investigators, they claimed to be probing NG-CDF projects and threatened to pursue charges unless bribed.
EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed the arrests, stating, “The Commission apprehended two suspects who have been posing as EACC Directors, targeting public officials with promises to resolve corruption cases for financial gain.”
Tobias Wekesa, a third-year student at Kibabii University, falsely claimed to be the EACC Director for the Kakamega office, which does not exist. Sharon Anyango, who graduated from Kibabii University in 2024, impersonated a senior EACC official based in Nairobi.
The operation was triggered after complainants alerted the EACC to the imposters’ demands. The suspects are currently held at the EACC Western Regional Offices in Bungoma, where they are recording statements.
The EACC has urged the public to remain vigilant against such schemes. “We remind Kenyans to report suspected imposters to the EACC through our toll-free hotline,” Ngumbi added.
