The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has taken over the investigation into the brutal murder of gospel artist Rachel Wandeto, who succumbed to severe injuries after being set on fire.

The DCI Homicide Directorate confirmed that preliminary investigations reveal the victim was on her way home when she encountered a group of three men along 11th Street near Obama Road in Mwiki, Kasarani, Nairobi on May 16.
The Attack
According to the DCI, the assailants assaulted Wandeto, doused her with a flammable liquid, and set her on fire before fleeing the scene. She was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital the same day, suffering from approximately 75 per cent burn injuries.

What Happened Next
Unfortunately, Wandeto succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital on May 18. The DCI described the crime as “heinous” and assured the public that investigations are being conducted thoroughly, impartially, and without fear or favour.
The DCI condemned all forms of violence, criminality, and intolerance that jeopardise the safety and sanctity of human life, and extended condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of the deceased.
