In a significant step to improve emergency healthcare, Siaya County has joined forces with Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation, Malteser International, and Rescue to enhance local emergency response by deploying new ambulances and training drivers. During a handover ceremony for two ambulances assigned to Madiany and Ukwala sub-counties, Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation representative Benjamin Wachira expressed satisfaction with Siaya’s commitment to covering all six sub-counties with ambulance services.
“Everyone in Siaya County will eventually have access to our emergency caller system,” Wachira said, “and ambulances will be able to reach people at home or on-site after accidents, ensuring no one is left without timely care.”

Robert Pampula from Malteser International praised the collaboration, stating that they have already trained 27 drivers to operate the ambulances, reinforcing Siaya’s emergency services.
We’re excited to witness this substantial advancement in Siaya’s emergency care. Malteser International is proud to be part of this journey, and we anticipate more collaborations. Our newly trained team of 27 drivers will support rapid evacuation and enable timely medical response,” Pampula noted.
Siaya County Governor James Orengo commended the organizations for their role in advancing Siaya’s healthcare system and emphasized his administration’s commitment to continue these partnerships.
“The work of our partners might go unseen daily, but the impact is tremendous. We are committed to ensuring Siaya County excels in emergency and ambulance services. Our system is set up for efficient evacuations and timely health interventions,” Orengo stated.

With these new additions, Siaya County is poised to set a standard in emergency healthcare access, with enhanced ambulance availability and streamlined response systems now in place.
