Kakamega County is revving up to welcome sports and culture enthusiasts as it hosts the 11th Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games, slated for November 23 to 30. This year’s edition promises to be grander than ever, with all 47 counties confirming participation—a significant boost from the 37 counties that competed in last year’s games held in Meru.

The towns of Kakamega and Mumias will buzz with activity as the county, which edged out Mombasa and Nyeri to secure hosting rights, pulls out all the stops to deliver an unforgettable experience. Governor Fernandes Barasa, newly appointed patron of KICOSCA, is leading the charge with confidence and determination.

“Hosting the KICOSCA Games in Kakamega is a privilege, and I assure you this year’s edition will be remarkable,” Governor Barasa declared.

He also rallied the home team, expressing optimism about reclaiming the football title currently held by West Pokot County. “Our team is fired up to bring the football trophy back home. This will be a special event, and we are ready to shine,” he added.

The games will feature 26 sporting and cultural events, including women’s football, which is making its debut this year. Highlights will include athletics, volleyball, choir competitions, and traditional dance performances, offering a rich tapestry of entertainment for fans and participants alike. The festivities kick off on November 24 with a grand opening ceremony followed by an exciting football showdown between Kakamega County and Nairobi City County.

Governor Barasa emphasized the county’s readiness to host, showcasing Kakamega’s legendary prowess in sports and culture.

“Kakamega has been a cultural champion for over a decade and remains a sports powerhouse. We’re set to dominate on the field and in the cultural arena,” he said with pride.

Beyond the action, the governor stressed the games’ broader purpose: fostering unity and celebrating Kenya’s diversity.

“This event is about more than just winning; it’s about building bridges, strengthening ties, and celebrating our unique heritage. We warmly welcome all counties for a week of healthy competition and camaraderie,” he said.

With its rich cultural legacy, unparalleled sports passion, and a commitment to excellence, Kakamega is poised to make this year’s KICOSCA Games an unforgettable showcase of talent, unity, and resilience.
