Defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) touched down in Zanzibar on Wednesday, gearing up for the Women’s Basketball League-Africa Zone Five qualifiers, set to tip off this Sunday.

A total of nine teams will battle for a coveted spot in the Africa Women’s Basketball League finals, slated for December in Dakar, Senegal.
KPA’s head coach, Anthony Ojukwu, expressed confidence in his team’s readiness to defend their title.
We’ve had solid preparations since October 7, with a focus on fitness. I’m pleased with our progress,” Ojukwu remarked. “Our tactics are in place, and I believe we’re in a strong position to reclaim our title. The players are motivated, injury-free, and all 17 registered players are available for selection.
Last year, KPA made history by becoming the first Kenyan team to reach the finals of the Africa Women’s Basketball League, finishing as runners-up after a 59-103 loss to Alexandria Sporting Club in Egypt. This achievement marked the first time a Kenyan team had podiumed in the tournament since KPA’s debut in 1998.
Kenya will also be represented in Zanzibar by the Equity Bank Hawks, who will face fierce competition from the likes of Egypt’s Al Ahly, and Rwanda’s APR and REG. The tournament runs until Saturday, November 2.
