The two-day bootcamp, held from May 28 to 29 at the Coastal National Polytechnic, delivered hands-on training and expert-led masterclasses across key sectors including data privacy, financial literacy, digital technology, hospitality, and creative arts.

Speaking during the event, Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom, emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering Kenya’s youth.

Safaricom Hook Circle aims to connect youth all over Kenya to opportunities that will propel them to succeed in their area of interest. In collaboration with our partners, we are providing opportunities to learn relevant topics in financial literacy, tech-forward upskilling, career readiness, and culture as a form of expression and income,” she said.

Participants explored career paths in fashion and design, filmmaking, makeup artistry, and hospitality, culminating in a graduation ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of those who completed the intensive sessions.

One of the beneficiaries, Halua, a fashion and design student, expressed heartfelt gratitude after receiving a sewing machine from Safaricom.

“I am truly grateful to Safaricom for gifting me a sewing machine. It will go a long way in helping me improve my sewing skills and complete my practical home assignments on time. The past two days have been incredibly insightful,” she said, adding that she had gained essential knowledge in budgeting, saving, and planning for her future.

In a parallel session, more than 250 boda boda and tuk tuk operators from the region took part in workshops focusing on road safety, first aid, mental health, and financial wellness—highlighting the initiative’s inclusive and community-focused approach.

The Mombasa edition marked the third installment of the Safaricom Hook Circle, following successful events at Chuka University and Kenyatta University. The program is part of Safaricom’s broader mission to equip young Kenyans with the tools and training necessary for personal and economic growth.
