Kametho Primary School in Rarieda Sub-County received a major boost in infrastructure after Safaricom M-Pesa Foundation unveiled new, state-of-the-art facilities worth Ksh35 million. The development includes modern classrooms, teachers’ offices, an IT block, a kitchen, and toilets, all constructed with advanced technology to support improved learning conditions.

During the handover ceremony, Eliud Owalo, Deputy Chief of Staff for Performance and Delivery in the Executive Office of the President, expressed deep gratitude for the foundation’s commitment to elevating education standards in rural Kenya. He highlighted that the infrastructure would play a crucial role in raising academic performance at Kametho Primary.
This investment by Safaricom M-Pesa Foundation is monumental for our community. With these facilities, our students now have the opportunity to learn in a modern environment. On behalf of the community, I extend our heartfelt thanks to the foundation’s leadership and management,” Owalo said.
Owalo also called on the local community, parents, and leaders to ensure the school thrives in tandem with its new infrastructure. Emphasizing the need for high academic performance, he urged the school administration to aim for top-ranking status in the county. He noted the government’s broader efforts to support education, citing plans to add 16,000 classrooms nationwide in January and the recent absorption of 46,000 intern teachers into full-time roles.

Joseph Ogutu, Chairman of the Safaricom M-Pesa Foundation, said the upgrades at Kametho Primary are part of the foundation’s Citizen of the Future initiative, aimed at uplifting educational standards and digital literacy across Kenya. Kametho is among the 600 schools set for modernization under the program.
We are thrilled to officially hand over these new facilities. The Citizen of the Future program aims to equip students with education suited for the digital age, and Kametho has been chosen to benefit from this vision. With facilities like these, even rural schools can match some of the best in the world,” Ogutu said.
Ogutu also praised the contractor for delivering high-quality work and reminded parents and teachers that the facilities would be meaningful only if they contribute to an improvement in academic results.
“On behalf of the foundation’s board, I commend the entire project team. The high standards maintained here are exemplary. Now, it’s up to the school to translate this investment into academic success,” he concluded.

The new facilities signal a significant step forward for Kametho Primary School, with the potential to transform the educational landscape for its students and inspire similar initiatives across Kenya.
