Kisumu Central National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) office has disbursed Sh. 16 million in bursaries for the 2023/24 financial year to benefit more than 2,000 students in tertiary colleges and universities.

David Juma, Secretary of the NG-CDF bursary sub-committee, confirmed the distribution, emphasizing that the funds aim to ensure students continue their studies uninterrupted by financial difficulties. “The cheques will enable our students to continue with their education without being sent away,” Juma stated during the cheque disbursement at the constituency office in Kisumu.
Juma highlighted that all students who applied for the bursary were included, following strict instructions from Kisumu Central MP Dr. Joshua Oron.
“The MP was very categorical that no student be left out—all applicants benefitted,” Juma noted.
Parents attending the distribution ceremony praised the process as fair and transparent. Railways Ward resident Oyoo Agola, a first-time recipient, said he was pleased with the Sh. 9,000 allocation his university-going child received, describing it as a vital financial relief.
I had heard many stories about bursary allocation, but I am genuinely surprised and grateful to have benefitted,” he said.
Nyalenda resident Eunice Aoko expressed similar sentiments, stating that the bursary would ensure her daughter remains enrolled in college. She commended the transparency of the allocation, which she said gave parents without connections a fair opportunity.
“The MP supported one of my daughters to join secondary school, and now he’s giving bursary support to another in university. I am grateful,” she said.
The Kisumu Central NG-CDF’s commitment to education funding is seen as a step towards enabling equal access to higher education, a measure parents described as transformative for the community.
