Graduates from Kisumu Young Men’s Christian Association(YMCA) are expressing heartfelt gratitude to Migosi MCA Pamela Awuor Oyoo for sponsoring their education, allowing them to complete their studies without financial burden. The graduates shared how Oyoo’s scholarship program has given them hope, enabling them to acquire the skills necessary to thrive in the job market.

Daisy Atieno, who began her studies in hairdressing at YMCA in 2023, was overjoyed, crediting Oyoo for making her dream possible.

“I am so happy today and deeply grateful to our MCA for sponsoring my dream of studying hairdressing. I’m now ready to face the world,” Atieno said, explaining that without Oyoo’s support, her aspirations would have been out of reach due to financial constraints.

Similarly, Stephan Juma, who studied plumbing, initially doubted the scholarship after seeing it advertised in a Migosi Ward WhatsApp group. “I thought it was a scam, but I decided to try my luck. I was amazed when I received a call for an interview, leading to this incredible opportunity,” Juma shared. He praised Oyoo for giving him the skills and credentials he needs to succeed, acknowledging the importance of having a practical skill in today’s world.

Irene Nechesa Maloba, a single mother, echoed the gratitude, describing how a friend encouraged her to explore the hairdressing course at YMCA. Initially, she joined as a private student but soon struggled with fees.

“I almost dropped out, but Hon. Oyoo came to my rescue, covering my full tuition,” Maloba said, expressing her appreciation for the supportive tutors and added that students could take multiple courses if they wished.

Speaking at the YMCA graduation ceremony on Thursday, October 31, MCA Pamela Oyoo shared her commitment to providing equal opportunities for all applicants.

Yesterday, we celebrated the graduation of 20 students, with 50 more awaiting graduation and another 50 set to join in January 2025,” she said.

She addressed critics calling the program a scam, urging them to recognize the graduates’ success. Oyoo emphasized that the sky is the limit for her sponsored students, who can now either join the workforce or pursue further studies.

In addition to YMCA, Oyoo’s scholarship program supports students at other institutions, including Mawego Technical Institute in Homa Bay, Sigalala in Vihiga, and Rotary in Kisumu, empowering youth with valuable TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) skills.
