Chulaimbo Boys High School has honored its top student in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), Polycarp Otieno, with an all-expenses-paid trip to Mombasa. Otieno, who scored a straight A, was treated to his first-ever flight, a moment he described as both thrilling and humbling.

Speaking to The Kenyan Tabloid on Thursday, at Kisumu International Airport before his departure, Otieno expressed his gratitude to the school’s administration and Board of Management (BOM) for fulfilling their promise to reward excellence. He encouraged current candidates to work hard, noting that dedication and perseverance had earned him this rare privilege.

“I am excited because this is my first time boarding a plane. The school promised us that those who excel would be rewarded, and today I am experiencing that reward,” said Otieno.

The ambitious student revealed his plans to pursue medicine and surgery at the university level, aiming to become one of Kenya’s top doctors.

Deputy Principal John Otieno Nyonje reaffirmed the school’s commitment to motivating students through such incentives. “For many years, we’ve encouraged our students to strive for excellence, and today, Polycarp is the proof of that promise,” he stated. “This trip to Mombasa is a token of our appreciation for his dedication.”

Nyonje emphasized that discipline and commitment were key factors in the school’s improved performance. “We instill a culture of hard work, and for the first time in nine years, we have an A student. This achievement should inspire our current candidates to aim higher,” he said.

Deputy Principal Samwel Okwemba, in charge of academics, also lauded Otieno’s success, calling it a defining moment for the institution. “We have waited nine years for an A, and now that we have achieved it, we are hopeful this marks the beginning of a new chapter of academic excellence,” he noted.
