Traders at Karapul Market in Alego Usonga Sub-County, led by Pamela Odongo, are urging the Siaya County government to prioritize repairs to the road connecting Siaya town and Ramba Market before relocating their businesses. Odongo emphasized that the current road conditions make the relocation impractical.

We’ve been running our small businesses at Karapul Market, and now we’re told we’re being moved to Ramba Market. I’m asking the county government to repair the road to Ramba first; it’s impassable,” she said.

Bodaboda operator Austin, speaking with The Kenyan Tabloid, echoed these concerns, describing the road as challenging even from Karapul Primary School.

“We don’t oppose the government’s plans, but first, they need to construct the road between Siaya town and Ramba Market,” he stated.

The traders also called for improved infrastructure connecting other local markets like Ng’iya, where they source many of their products. Additionally, they requested better lighting and voiced their frustration with unmet promises, urging local authorities to focus on practical improvements.
