In a heartwarming display of kindness, Kisumu Central MP Dr. Joshua Odongo Oron marked Christmas Day by sharing love and joy with residents, especially the less fortunate.

At a festive gathering in Kisumu’s Central Business District (CBD), the MP spearheaded an event aimed at recognizing and uplifting street families who might otherwise have missed out on the season’s celebrations.

Amid the financial struggles gripping many households across Kenya, Dr. Oron emphasized the importance of unity and compassion during challenging times. “Today, we are throwing a party for those who can’t afford to put food on their table,” he said.

Feeding Hearts and Dreams

The celebration included shared meals, distribution of clothing, and personal grooming services for street families. Beyond the festivities, Dr. Oron introduced a life-changing initiative: identifying 16 street children to join vocational and technical training programs. Starting January 2025, six will attend driving school, while ten will join institutions such as NITA and Rotary for technical skills training. Others will receive support to integrate into the informal “jua kali” sector.

“Being on the streets is not a crime,” Dr. Oron remarked. “Many are here because of poverty, lack of parental care, or other circumstances. It’s our duty to extend a hand and offer a path to a better life.”

A Call for Responsibility

Dr. Oron also took the opportunity to address road safety during the festive season. Urging drivers to exercise caution, he appealed for responsible drinking and adherence to traffic rules to prevent accidents. “For those who are drinking, let’s drink responsibly and stay away from driving,” he cautioned.

Gratitude and Hope

The event struck a chord with many, including Julian Aoko, a resident and beneficiary. “Dr. Oron has always stood with us in tough times,” she said, expressing her heartfelt thanks for his unwavering support.

As the festivities wrapped up, Dr. Oron extended his warm wishes to the residents of Kisumu Central, Kisumu County, and all Kenyans: “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2025!”

This act of kindness not only brought smiles to the streets of Kisumu but also set a powerful example of how the Christmas spirit can transform lives and communities.
