Nyakach Member of Parliament, Hon. Aduma Owuor, has officially announced his intention to run for the Kisumu County gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. He aims to succeed his uncle, Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, whose second and final term will end in 2027, as stipulated by the Constitution.

Speaking during the 61st Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nduga Primary School in North Nyakach on December 12, 2024, Hon. Aduma expressed confidence in his bid. He also called on fellow aspirants to shun early campaigns characterized by political thuggery and hooliganism.
“Let me encourage and warn those seeking the gubernatorial seat in Kisumu County to refrain from violence and chaos. Let peace prevail and allow those in office to work. Campaigns will come at the right time,” he stated.
Development Milestones in Nyakach
Aduma highlighted his achievements in Nyakach, showcasing numerous development projects. He noted ongoing initiatives, including:
- Rarieda Kokech School: Allocating Ksh. 1.6 million for development.
- Lisana Primary School: Set to receive Ksh. 3 million for improvements.
- Digital Hubs: Establishing hubs in Katito and Pap Onditi, each costing Ksh. 8 million.
- Maraba Primary School: Development support worth Ksh. 1.6 million.
He expressed pride in his constituents’ satisfaction with his leadership and promised continued progress as he transitions to focus on the gubernatorial race.

Addressing Security Concerns
Acknowledging the persistent insecurity along the Sondu border between Kisumu and Kericho counties, Hon. Aduma assured constituents that he is working closely with local security teams, including the OCPD and the Deputy County Commissioner, to restore peace.
He referenced the recent killing of Kennedy Kusimba in Kadiang’a East as a call to action. “We are working with chiefs and police officers to arrest those responsible for causing unrest. Political thuggery and hooliganism must stop, and offenders will face justice,” he emphasized.
Commitment to Peaceful Politics
Hon. Aduma urged fellow parliamentary aspirants in Nyakach to conduct their campaigns peacefully, stating he will not defend his MP seat as he focuses on the gubernatorial race.
“I want to leave the people of Nyakach in peace. Leadership isn’t achieved through violence. Even a hawker, teacher, or elder can become MP if they exhibit integrity and a commitment to serve,” he remarked.
He also lauded Chief Zablon Ochieng for his commendable efforts in combating crime in the area.
Honoring a Local Hero
In a historic gesture, Hon. Aduma supported the plea from Zablon Akach’s family to rename Nduga Primary School in honor of the late colonial-era chief. Chief Akach is remembered for his transformative leadership in Nyakach.
“We are ready to honor Chief Zablon Akach for the positive changes he brought to Nyakach. Renaming the school will be a fitting tribute,” he affirmed, while urging adherence to proper channels, including public participation and consultation with education authorities.

As he prepares for the 2027 gubernatorial race, the legislator promised to uphold peace, foster development, and lead by example, inspiring confidence in his vision for Kisumu County.
