Busia County set to host 12th Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) summit

Busia County will host the 12th Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) Summit from November 27 to 29, 2024. The announcement was made by LREB Chairperson Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o during a press briefing at Serena Beach Resort in Mombasa, following a resolution by LREB Governors.

“We are pleased to announce that the upcoming 12th Lake Region Economic Bloc Summit will be hosted in Busia County from November 27 to 29,” Nyong’o stated.

He highlighted the summit’s focus on collaborative efforts to drive sustainable development and community resilience, particularly through investments in early childhood development.

This year’s summit, themed “Food Security in the Face of Climate Change: Building Partnerships towards Resilience among Communities in the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB),” will bring together over 2,000 participants, including state and non-state actors in the food security and climate sectors.

LREB represents 14 counties, covering Kenya’s Western, Nyanza, and Rift Valley regions, and serves a population of over 15 million. The bloc is a diverse, cosmopolitan area, including Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Homa Bay, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Nandi, Nyamira, Siaya, Trans Nzoia, and Vihiga counties, constituting approximately 25% of Kenya’s population.

Nyong’o extended an invitation to national government agencies, development partners, and stakeholders in the Lake Victoria Basin to participate in this important regional event aimed at developing viable solutions to climate change challenges.
