President William Ruto’s administration has moved to safeguard Kenya’s natural resource wealth for future generations following the enactment of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Act, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo has announced.

Speaking during a Women Empowerment Forum in Gem, Siaya County, Dr. Omollo said the newly enacted law establishes a legal framework for the prudent management and investment of revenues generated from the country’s natural resources, ensuring that both present and future generations benefit from the nation’s wealth.

He said Kenya has, for decades, exploited natural resources without a comprehensive system to preserve the proceeds for future use, adding that the Sovereign Wealth Fund will now guarantee that part of the revenues generated from the sector is invested for long-term national prosperity.

“The President has now made this a reality. As a country, we must ensure that the wealth generated from our natural resources benefits our people today while also securing the future of generations to come,” said Dr. Omollo.

He noted that the legislation will strengthen transparency and accountability in the management of resource revenues while boosting investor confidence by providing a predictable framework for partnerships in resource-based development projects.

Dr. Omollo further underscored the importance of attracting private investment to complement government efforts in accelerating economic growth, saying investments in natural resources must deliver tangible benefits, including employment opportunities, improved livelihoods and enhanced public services for local communities.

On governance and service delivery, the PS revealed that the Government has operationalized more than 1,800 administrative units nationwide since President Ruto assumed office, including several new locations and sub-locations in Siaya County.

He said the expansion has significantly brought government services closer to wananchi, making it easier for citizens to access national identity cards, civil registration services and other essential public programmes.

Dr. Omollo also urged residents to take advantage of the ongoing national identification and voter registration exercises, emphasizing that identity documents remain critical in accessing government services and participating in democratic processes.

He observed that the Nyanza region has the potential to register nearly one million new voters and encouraged all eligible citizens aged 18 years and above to enlist with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The Principal Secretary further commended women for their pivotal role in driving economic growth and strengthening communities, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to supporting women empowerment through programmes that promote entrepreneurship, financial inclusion and increased household incomes.

He concluded by calling for unity, peaceful coexistence and collective participation in development initiatives, saying sustained national progress can only be achieved through collaboration between citizens and the Government.
