Ezekiel Marley Ayiego, the Vihiga County Secretary and Head of County Public Service, passed away Tuesday night at his residence in the Western region of Kenya.

Governor Wilbur Otichillo, in his condolence message, described Ayiego as a dedicated administrator and a strong advocate for change.

Mr. Ayiego, who unexpectedly passed away last night, was a committed administrator, educator, and a dear friend. In his role as County Secretary, we worked closely to reform the Vihiga County Public Service,” said Governor Otichillo. “On behalf of my family, county staff, and the people of Vihiga, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Ezekiel Marley Ayiego.”

Ayiego was appointed as County Secretary on June 4, 2020, after emerging as the top candidate among over 20 applicants. At his swearing-in, Governor Otichillo voiced confidence in Ayiego’s ability to address pressing issues within the county workforce, including staff audits, promotions, and fairness.

In line with Articles 10 and 232 of the Kenyan Constitution, Ayiego committed to building skilled manpower, empowering youth, and supporting marginalized groups. He emphasized his duties would be focused on the county’s strategic plan, fostering collaboration, and ensuring effective resource management.

Before joining county administration, Ayiego served as the Principal of Chesamis Boys High School. His passing marks a significant loss for Vihiga County, where he was deeply respected and admired for his commitment to public service.
