The Kisumu Muslim Association has condemned the escalating insecurity in the city following Tuesday morning’s attack on one of its members after prayers.

A representative from the association expressed growing concern, stating that worshippers face threats as early as 6:00 AM while heading to prayers.
“Truth be told, those of us living in Kisumu face a serious insecurity problem. We’ve seen incidents, we’ve heard about attacks, but we don’t know where to turn. We Muslims, especially, are vulnerable as we attend prayers in the early morning and at 8 PM in the evening. Just days ago, someone was killed in Kaloleni, yesterday in Manyatta Gonda, and today, one of our own, Shakur, was attacked near Rana Autos at 6:00 AM,” the member said.
The association is now calling on security agencies in Kisumu to intensify their efforts, noting that some areas in the city have been marked as high-risk zones yet police have not taken action.
“Our faith does not allow us to carry weapons to the mosque, so it is up to the police to ensure our safety. Our businesses are also at risk, and we are worried. We don’t want our members to miss prayers because of insecurity,” they added.
In a recent update, police identified several areas as high-risk zones, including Nyamasaria, Nyalenda, Sabuni Road, Kaloleni Estates, and parts of the Central Business District (CBD), urging residents to exercise increased caution.
