Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has praised the coordinated efforts of the Kenya Navy, Kenya Coast Guard Service, the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after a joint operation led to the interception of 1,024 kilograms of methamphetamine worth an estimated Ksh. 10 billion in the Indian Ocean.
“The collaboration between our agencies saw us seize illicit drugs shipped from Iran in our waters, drugs worth Ksh. 10 billion. Our agencies will continue to work together to wipe out this menace that destroys our young people,” Murkomen said.

The Interior CS confirmed that the narcotics will be confiscated and destroyed once, ongoing investigations are concluded. He said detectives are pursuing leads to identify and arrest the masterminds behind the shipment, stressing the government’s zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking.
“We will ensure those behind this shipment are brought to book. Soon, you will see us publicly destroying these drugs. We have resolved as a nation to fight drugs and every vice destroying the lives of our people,” he added.
Authorities said the drugs were seized on Friday from a vessel approximately 650 kilometers off the Mombasa Port. Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment originated from Iran and was destined for Kenya’s black market.
In a separate address, Murkomen reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfill all development pledges made to the people of Nyanza in honor of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga.
He noted that road infrastructure projects across the region will be completed as promised by President William Ruto, adding that the government will also harness the economic potential of Lake Victoria.
“Very little is happening in Lake Victoria to change the lives of our people. From hospitality to transport, it is time we open up the potential of our lake to transform livelihoods,” Murkomen stated.
The Cabinet Secretary spoke to journalists on Sunday during a church service at Arina AIC in Kisumu Central.
