President William Ruto’s “Kusema na Kutenda” mantra is taking visible shape at the Homa Bay lakefront, where a string of government-backed projects is reshaping livelihoods, trade and tourism under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

At the heart of the transformation is the newly commissioned state-of-the-art Homa Bay Fish Market, now fully operational and hosting over 2,000 traders. The modern facility, fitted with storage, sanitation and trading amenities, has brought dignity, order and efficiency to a sector that sustains thousands of families along Lake Victoria.

Just beside it, the revived Homa Bay Pier has been restored to accommodate cargo vessels, passenger ferries and tourist boats, unlocking new trade and connectivity opportunities across the lake region.

Completing the triad of projects is the county’s first open amphitheatre, surrounded by gardens, cycling and walking tracks, boat rides and a specially designed sunset viewpoint, anchoring Homa Bay as a growing tourism destination.

Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, who toured the facilities, said the developments are proof of a government that matches words with action.

“This is transformation you can see and touch. From the fish market to the pier and the amphitheatre, Homa Bay is fast becoming a hub of commerce, tourism and investment. President Ruto’s commitment to the people is not just rhetoric, it is delivery,” Dr. Omollo said.

The influx of traders, investors and tourists has already created demand for more housing, a need addressed through the Homa Bay Affordable Housing Project, which is complete and already welcoming occupants.

Taken together, the projects reflect Kenya’s wider vision of harnessing the Blue Economy for jobs, trade, food security and tourism. They also demonstrate how integrated government initiatives can multiply impact, creating ripple benefits that extend beyond their immediate locale.

From the lakefront to livelihoods, from trade to tourism and from housing to human dignity, the government’s promise of “Kusema na Kutenda” is being realized in Homa Bay.
