Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat for alleged involvement in extrajudicial killings.

Speaking during a tense rally in Kiambu on Thursday, Gachagua accused President Ruto of assembling a covert “killer squad” of 101 officers drawn from the Administration Police and deployed to the National Intelligence Service (NIS). According to the former DP, this unit is responsible for the abduction and murder of Gen Z protesters across the country.

“Ruto has killed our children, and you expect us to keep following him do you think we are mad?” Gachagua thundered. “Now a teenager has been killed in Nairobi by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Lagat Ruto’s man, Murkomen’s man. There is a killer squad of 101 officers, and they are targeting our Gen Zs.”

Gachagua directly implicated DIG Lagat in the murder of teacher and blogger Albert Omondi Ojwang, who was reportedly arrested at his rural home in Homa Bay after being accused of defaming the DIG on social media. The former DP claims Ojwang was later killed at Central Police Station under Lagat’s orders.

“The Senate and National Assembly are trying to cover up when the killer is well known. This man called Lagat must be arrested, taken to court, and charged with murder,” Gachagua said.

His remarks come amid mounting public outrage and growing calls for DIG Lagat’s resignation. Civil society groups and Gen Z protest organizers have demanded an independent investigation into Ojwang’s death and alleged police brutality targeting youth-led demonstrations.

DIG Lagat has yet to respond to the allegations, and the government has not issued an official statement regarding Gachagua’s claims.
