After months of anticipation, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially announced the resumption of its grassroots elections, which were postponed in April due to widespread flooding across the country.

In a statement obtained by The Kenyan Tabloid, the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) confirmed that the elections will take place on November 27, 2024, at polling centers across all 47 counties. The announcement was signed by NECC chairperson Hon. Emily Awita, who emphasized the committee’s mandate under Article 61 of the party constitution to oversee all party elections.
The elections will involve the selection of 30 party officials, with 10 representatives from each of the three committees at every polling unit: the mainstream, women’s league, and youth league. Candidates in the mainstream category will compete for key positions, including chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary, organizing secretary, treasurer, women leader, youth leader, and three committee members.
In the women’s and youth leagues, contested positions will also include chairperson, secretary, organizing secretary, their deputies, treasurer, and three committee members. The NECC is committed to ensuring the inclusion of persons with disabilities and minority groups in all categories.
Voting will occur from 10 AM to 2 PM, utilizing either consensus or a show of hands. ODM members are encouraged to verify their membership by dialing 483036# to ensure a smooth electoral process.
Under the interim leadership of Prof. Peter Anyang Nyongo, nominated by party leader Hon. Raila Odinga, ODM remains dedicated to its political activities in accordance with its constitutional provisions.
