Residents of Kisumu West Sub County have lauded President William Ruto’s government for appointing one of their own, CPA Caren Achieng Agengo, as the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Children’s Welfare Services.

The move has been widely celebrated, with local leaders and community members hailing it as a major milestone for the region. Speaking at a press conference at Ojola on Monday, Kisumu West ODM chairman Gideon Oulu described the appointment as a “gift to the community” under the broad-based government.

“We are extremely happy that our daughter has been tapped to offer services to the people of Kenya,” said Oulu.

He credited the recent handshake between President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga for fostering a peaceful political climate that is now yielding tangible benefits for the Luo Nyanza region.

The appointment of CPA Caren, who hails from Kadawa in the Kamoth community, has sparked celebrations among residents, party officials, elders, and youth leaders. Morris Ochuka, secretary of the Kamoth community, emphasized that the selection of CPA Caren marks a historic achievement, placing the community on the national map.

“This appointment is a game-changer. The last time someone from our community held such a high-ranking government position was nearly 40 years ago during the Moi regime,” said Ochuka.

Local leaders, including Kisumu West MP Roza Buyu and Southwest Kisumu MCA Jennifer Obonyo, were praised for their relentless efforts in lobbying for government appointments.

“We thank Hon. Buyu for ensuring our people have a seat at the table. CPA Caren is highly qualified, and we are confident in her ability to serve,” said Obonyo.

Elders led by Jotham Ondu echoed similar sentiments, applauding the government’s inclusivity in national appointments.

“A lot of appointments have been witnessed under President Ruto’s administration, and we appreciate this recognition of our community,” said Ondu.

With celebrations in full swing, residents of Kisumu West are hopeful that CPA Caren’s appointment will open more doors for the region in national leadership.
