CAF President Patrice Motsepe has expressed strong confidence in Kenya’s readiness to host the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), despite lingering concerns over delays in facility preparations.

During a tour of key venues on Friday, Motsepe praised the progress made and commended the unwavering commitment of Kenyan leadership, particularly President William Ruto, to ensuring the tournament’s success.
“I leave Kenya with even more confidence and excitement about the work being done. I have full faith in Kenya’s ability to deliver a world-class tournament,” Motsepe stated.
The CAF chief inspected venues, including Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, Kasarani Annex, Nyayo Stadium, Ulinzi Sports Complex, and Police Sacco Stadium. While noting challenges such as pending floodlight installations and dressing room upgrades at Nyayo Stadium, he expressed optimism about meeting the January 20 readiness deadline.

Outgoing Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen reassured CAF and the public of the government’s dedication to CHAN preparations, highlighting efforts like expedited shipping for critical materials.
“We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure every facility meets the required standards,” he emphasized.
President Ruto echoed this commitment, pledging full government support to deliver all stadiums and infrastructure on time.

The CHAN 2024 tournament, scheduled from February 1 to 28, marks Kenya’s debut as host for this prestigious event, reserved for players active in domestic leagues. It will also serve as a precursor to Kenya’s co-hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Tanzania and Uganda.
With CAF’s endorsement and Kenya’s determination, hopes are high for a historic and memorable CHAN tournament.
