Kisumu City is ramping up preparations for the 2024 December festive season with a series of high-profile events that promise to elevate the city’s status as a global tourism and entertainment destination. The milestone celebration highlights Kisumu’s strides in tourism investment, positioning it as a hub for cultural and recreational activities.

A standout event will feature the internationally acclaimed artist Le Grand Papa Mopao, popularly known as Koffi Olomide performing live in Kisumu for the first time on December 14, 2024. The performance, part of the Mzuqa Festival sponsored by Cape Media Group, will take place at the Mamboleo International Stadium. Kenyan music sensation Prince Indah and other local artists will also grace the stage, promoting local talent alongside the Congolese music icon.
Speaking to the press on November 20, Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga emphasized the city’s readiness to host the Mzuqa Festival, marking the first of its kind.
“Three years ago, Kisumu initiated a tradition of vibrant December festivities. This year, Kisumu will be the epicenter of entertainment, starting December 14 with Mzuqa Fest featuring Koffi Olomide and Prince Indah,” said Wanga.

To ensure smooth operations and safety, over 2,000 parking spaces have been prepared, and security measures are being enhanced. Wanga encouraged attendees to purchase tickets early to avoid last-minute congestion and assured the public of a well-organized and secure event.
Highlighting ongoing efforts to address security concerns, Wanga noted that a multi-agency team, formed by Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o and local security authorities, has been tackling criminal activities in Kisumu over the past month. Increased patrols, arrests, and estate vigilante groups have significantly improved security in the city.
On December 14, the security team will cordon off Mamboleo International Stadium, installing barriers and restricting boda boda access to ensure public safety.
“We want a peaceful and enjoyable experience. No incidents of phone theft or harassment will be tolerated,” Wanga emphasized.
The Kisumu December entertainment period, which runs from December 14 to January 5, 2025, promises to feature diverse activities aimed at drawing both local and international visitors. The festivities are expected to shine a spotlight on Kisumu as a premier entertainment destination while fostering a sense of community and cultural pride.
