Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga on Monday made an emotional visit to the home of slain influencer Albert Ojwang in Kokwanyo village, delivering a rare show of unity from Kenya’s top political figures and pledging justice for the tortured blogger.

Addressing a somber gathering, Governor Wanga disclosed that both President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had sent financial assistance to Ojwang’s family, with Ruto contributing Ksh2 million and Odinga Ksh1 million.
“Agwambo has sent you one million. Our President, Dr. William Ruto, has also sent two million,” Wanga declared, standing beside Ojwang’s father.
In a further act of support, the governor announced that her administration would construct a two-bedroom house worth Ksh1.5 million for Mzee Ojwang in memory of his son.
“If Albert were here, he would have built this house himself,” Wanga added.
Wanga condemned the killing of the young content creator in police custody as a gross abuse of human rights and a disturbing pattern of brutality that must be urgently addressed.
“The killing of Albert Ojwang in police custody is a painful tragedy, a violation of his fundamental rights, and a dangerous trend we must confront,” she stated.

As public outrage continues to grow over Ojwang’s mysterious death, Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, who has faced mounting pressure from both Gen Z activists and the wider public, announced he would step aside to allow for an impartial investigation.
“I have today opted to step aside from the office of the DIG–Kenya Police Service pending completion of investigations,” Lagat said in a brief statement.

The move marks a major shift in the unfolding case that has gripped the nation, as demands for accountability intensify and investigators race to uncover the truth behind Ojwang’s last hours in custody.
