Addressing the press at Ofafa Hall in Kisumu, Owili emphasized that the event would serve as a reminder of the Luo people’s deep-rooted cultural history, highlighting their lineage as descendants of the legendary Ramogi Ajwang’.

“We are descendants of Ramogi Ajwang’, and Got Ramogi in Siaya is where it all began. This year, we return to our roots, and all roads lead to Siaya,” he stated, referencing the significance of Got Ramogi as the ancestral home of the Luo people.

The festival, which will take place from December 30 to January 1, 2025, will include a multifaceted celebration of culture, politics, education, and sports. As part of the celebrations, the curtain raiser will be the annual Migwena Cultural Festival, marking the beginning of a week of activities, including traditional wrestling and boat racing, which will showcase the Luo people’s sporting prowess.

Owili also highlighted the importance of sports in the celebration, noting that alongside the cultural festivities, there would be an exciting sports lineup.

“We will celebrate our sportsmen and women in events such as boat racing and wrestling, while also hosting football matches like Bunge FC vs. Siaya Combined. Our chief guest, the festival’s patron, Hon. Raila Odinga, will be joining us for this momentous occasion,” he said.

This match will mark a significant milestone in the county’s sports development as it looks to bolster its infrastructure and attract more international attention.
