A police officer based at Ahero Police Line has been found dead in his house, with authorities opening an inquest to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to an occurrence book report (OB No. 24/21/01/2026) recorded at 11:00 a.m., the incident was reported by Corporal David, who became concerned after repeated attempts to reach the officer by phone went unanswered. The deceased had reportedly confided a day earlier that he was under stress due to domestic issues at home.

After failing to get a response, the colleague proceeded to the officer’s house within the police line, where he found the door locked from the inside. There was no response to calls from outside, prompting him to alert other officers.

Senior police officers, including the Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC), Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO), and the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), visited the scene. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from Kisumu processed the scene and documented the findings.

Police said no note was recovered from the house. The body was later removed to Ahero County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.

An inquest file (No. 1/2026) has been opened, and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nyando are handling the case.
