The African Nations Championship (CHAN), initially slated for February 1–28, 2025, across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, has been rescheduled to August 2025, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced.

CAF’s decision follows recommendations from its technical and infrastructure experts, who advised that the host nations needed additional time to meet the tournament’s demanding standards. The delay is set to ensure the venues, training facilities, and other infrastructure are ready to deliver a world-class event.
“CAF experts, some stationed in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, have reported that extra time is required to bring the facilities to the levels necessary for hosting a successful African Nations Championship,” read the CAF statement.
Kenya, a key host, had been racing against time to complete upgrades at Kasarani Stadium and other venues. The postponement eases the pressure and gives all three nations room to perfect their preparations.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe applauded the leadership of the host nations and voiced confidence in their ability to deliver a stellar tournament.
“I extend heartfelt gratitude to Presidents William Ruto of Kenya, Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their dedication and progress in upgrading stadiums, training facilities, and supporting infrastructure,” said Motsepe.
Motsepe also expressed optimism about the revamped timeline:
“The ongoing renovations are impressive, and I am confident the facilities will meet CAF’s high standards by August 2025. We are on track to host a memorable CHAN tournament.”

With the February tournament pushed back, the draws initially planned for January 15 in Nairobi will be rescheduled. CAF will soon announce the new draw date along with the exact August tournament schedule.
The delay offers Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda a golden opportunity to fine-tune their preparations, promising a spectacular event that will highlight East Africa’s potential to host major continental championships.
